Before the "nickel" there was the half dime. This pre-civil war coin was recovered from a park in Chicago by Bjorn. These coins were quite small and had to be easy to lose. This coin was found near an old stone foundation located on mid-19th century maps. Based on the condition the coin was dropped early in it's life. The coin does have a slight bend though.

Bjorn pulled a 10k gold wedding band from the ocean. It's pretty small in size but was still my best find of the weekend. Got to love gold though.

While searching ebay, I came across this B&O railroad whistle, a piece very similar to an item I recovered in Oliver, PA. My whistle punched with "B & O" on the top of the whistle, was likely possessed by an engineer, working with passengers. My find has been donated to the B & O Railroad Museum in Ellicott City, Maryland, an item which they did not yet have in their collection. The B & O Railroad had a branch running through Uniontown north into Pittsburgh. I believe my whistle dates to the early 1900's.

Miner's Tag Display -- I put together this display of miner's tags recovered from Pennsylvania. These tags were used to keep track of which miners were above ground or below. One interesting tag is marked "SOS". A lot of the others are marked "Safety First". Nearly all have a unique number. These tags ultimately helped saved lives over the years.
